time out

I had a busy week and a long, tiring trip home. I didn’t feel like doing anything today. Kate and I had a lovely morning. We swam and exercised and I washed my hair and we talked, private talk, and I still haven’t unpacked.

We were just finishing lunch when a surprise visitor arrived, my writer friend and mentor. He brought dinner and his dog, Toby, and a legitimate reason for me not to do any work today, We saw Kate off and then we talked and had tea with my lemon poppy seed loaf and he fed Toby and we took him for a walk, not too far because we both have aching limbs and need our canes.

I prepared dinner over a leisurely glass of Beaujolais-Villages, 2021, plus Triscuits with some Danish blue cheese. Richard brought a generous Shepherds’ Pie (with beef not lamb) from Yonge-Summerhill Market and fresh asparagus. My only addition was some canned gravy, heated to lavish on the mashed potato topping. No dessert, but a second glass of wine.

Richard left about 8:30. I cleaned up but did not load the dishwasher. I didn’t go to bed. I started a new Netflix series.

I’ll work tomorrow.
