Beware the warm weather!
t’s getting to be so pleasant that it makes you feel almost normal, and that’s dangerous. Before you know it, you’ll be smiling and saying hello to people and wanting to hug your friends.
Not yet.
Soon, though. Maybe.
We’ve been under siege for so long, it may take a while (if ever) to act normally again (if ever).
siege noun, * a military operation in which enemy forces surround a town or building, cutting off essential supplies, with the aim of compelling the surrender of those inside: Verdun had withstood a siege of ten weeks | [as modifier] : siege warfare. an operation in which a police or other force surround a building and cut off supplies, with the aim of forcing an armed person to surrender. * a prolonged period of misfortune: I've been having a siege of headaches.
I underlined that last definition: “a prolonged period of misfortune”, and the word surrender, just to remind you—and me— that it ain’t over till it’s over.
But hey!
Go ahead and smile.
