It was a beautiful party

It was a beautiful party, and I don’t say that only because it has been two years since we had a live Thorrablót, although it was wonderful to see real-live people happy to see each other again in a celebratory mode. I say it because it was beautifully organized, the food was beautiful, and people looked —well—beautiful.

It’s not that I’m short of adjectives. I used a number of different ones in my first run-through. But beautiful kept popping in so I gave up. Beautiful it was.

Þorrablót ) is an Icelandic midwinter festival, named for the month of Þorri of the historical Icelandic calendar (corresponding to mid January to mid February), and blót, literally meaning sacrifice. The festival is popular in North America now but later in the year when the weather is a little milder. Increasingly over the last few years, the old traditional foods are presented as well as more current fare. I could give you a menu but you can look up the highlights we all observe. I am told that some clubs (chapters, associations etc.) have a dinner dance after dinner. We have a Live Auction as well as a Silent Auction and a Sale table—no bargains but delightful gifts.

To repeat, it was a beautiful party.
