Rules for Singles:
1 . Always have socks and a sweater handy in case you’re cold in bed. (I extended this to my Rules for Travel in my book Endings.)
2. Don’t run out of anything (because you’re the only one who has to go and get it).
3. Call long distance. This was during the fist months of my widowhood when I didn’t have a phone contract and it cost me a lot to calI. I couldn’t dwell on my troubles too much because it cost too much.
