attention span?

coming soon (if I remember)….

I’ll copy this from a paragraph I cut from ??? (somewhere) and pasted into my journal this morning:

“…something destructive happened to my attention span this year….I found it difficult to focus on the written word. Book in lap, my mind wandered to the latest coronavirus numbers; as if by some unholy instinct, I’d put the book down….” [This writer turned to Twitter; I made lists, mostly menu plans.]

I’m sorry I didn’t get the name of the writer, but it could have been me. MY focus is gone. Yesterday a dear friend gave me a new book. Serendipity! Suppose a Sentence (New York Review of Books, 2020) by Brian Dillon, Irish-born writer, editor and teacher of creative writing at Queen Mary University of London. He’s a young fella, only 52; I never heard of him because I’m old.

But he has brought back my focus. I’ve started reading. I’ll let you know….
