happy mothers' day to me

I’m a triple mother now: mother, grandmother and great grandmother. My children call me Mom, my grand children call me Amma (Icelandic for grandmother), my two great-grandchildren are being taught to call me Gigi, for Great-Grand-. The Icelandic for great grandmother is longamma. I like it but I guess it’s too much for a child to say.

I’m at the age where kind friends are mothering me and I’m grateful. Before the pandemic I considered such benign overtures as being somewhat patronizing. What? Me? Old? But I have aged, and matured a litle, in the last four weeks and I’ll take what I receive with thanks. Perhaps I am finally becoming an adult, growing up not old.
