happy february first

I’m going dry this month. The thought came up on the TV (Global) News this month and it seemed like a good idea. Valentine’s Day is in February and my birthday is in February (also Matt’s and Kate’s and William’s, almost (March 1), —two children and one grandchild — all adults and occasional drinkers—so I’ll be missing quite a number of champagne occasions. Much as I’ll miss the champers, I’ll stick to my pledge., I have a granddaughter in the States who’s going along with me. She gave up booze for 100 days last summer, so I have reason to believe she’ll stay the course.

In earlier years (very early) I used to give up something for Lent, not alcohol. (I said early years.) Deprivation or vows of sobriety or chastity, or whatever, must be hard-wired into our psyches. I mean what are New Year’s Resolutions but some form of self-denial?

I had my last Dirty Martini for a month last night, but mainly I’m giving up my dinner wine. DMs are occasional treats. There’s that word again—occasional.

Like my blogs.

Stay tuned, all you lurkers out there.
