Years ago when I was still living in Muskkoka, I had a cartoon pinned to my bulletin board to remind me of what lay ahead.
An old woman is sitting in a chair viciously stitching a sampler. Just to remind you or don't know if you are young:
sampler, noun: 1 a piece of embroidery worked in various stitches as a specimen of skill, typically containing the alphabet and some mottoes. 2 a representative collection or example of something: a sampler of rock plants. 3 a person or device that takes and analyses samples. 4 an electronic device for sampling music and sound.ORIGIN Middle English (denoting an example to be imitated): from Old French essamplaire ‘exemplar’.
On the wall behind her are samplers she has already stitched, framed and hung. Each of them bears a message:
THE FOOD IS TERRIBLE
MY FEET HURT
THE KIDS DON'T CALL
Yesterday was my Sampler Day. I kvetched in my blog.
Sorry.
I'm still cold.
