recovery

The party was lovely, Nibbles were potluck, Prosecco flowed freely, and two birthday cakes disappeared.

The day was tiring.

The drive to Hamilton took a long time, with Grey Cup traffic increasing tension for our driver. My inability to meet lots of interesting people frustrated me. I used to be able to work a room but now I sit and have to wait for the room to come to me. Matt is a social man, like his father, and he is poised and friendly. He had a good time. So did I. but my neighbour, our driver, did not feel well. She struggled valiantly but we were the last to leave while we waited for her to feel strong enough to drive back to Toronto. I promised myself then that aI would try to make it up to her the next day, to help in her recovery.

The bonus was that we we enjoyed a quiet visit with the host and birthday boy who were exhausted but gracious.

I was tired too.

So I rested on the 20th, a bit.

I invited our wonderful driver to dinner so she could rest and not have to do anything. It was difficult but the bonus was that I ate, too. I don’t cook just for myself and I needed a proper dinner. (grilled chicken drumsticks, Rainbow carrots, roasted, reheated egg[pant and red peppers (leftover from the grilled veggies Matt and ate on Saturday) with fresh grated Parmesan cheese. on top. I didn’t have the strength to rinse berries (my usual dessert). I served ice cream bars.

My Wound Specialist came (awkward pause in my cooking), and my Codeine Pill sent me to sleep on the sofa after my guest left. I woke up at 1 a.m. and went to bed.

And now it’s tomorrow. Lovely day.

I get to have a shower.

Later.

and now it's another

Last night a live cabaret was held in the lobby of our apartment building. It was like Movie Night but with live performers. We were served chiips and candy and we sat at tables and enjpyed whatever refreshments we brought with us. I took ginger beer.

I re-Ilived my past life spent on Broadway hits dating back to Hair. (We saw it in London on our first trip to England. I can still remember the date of the first fLP (remember those?) we bought afterw we were marrried: Broadway Hits of 1952 and most of the songs, one, a real actors’s song, has becme a favorite lounge piece, a dramatic, touching story": “Guess Who I Saw Today”. And I always wince at the bad grammar of If Ever I Would Leave You, necessitated by the metre, I guess, but it’s a beautiful song.

So yesterday was a good day, and a reprieve frorm too much work and excitement for an old doll like me.

Today Matt and I are going to a birthday party in Hamilton. I’ll trty to report later.
