Ever heard of a “blogroll”? That’s the next recommendation in Blogging 101. “The term blogroll refers to a list of other blogs that bloggers recommend. They can be helpful in your hunt for the perfect blogs.” [I’m trying to write the perfect blog,not find one.]

I know one generous person who has done that. Have you heard of Jincy Willett?( 1946) She is an American novelist with a wonderful, kooky sense of humour. I hope so…and so it is.

—I also read The Winner of the National Book Award, Janny and the Jaws of Life, and Amy Falls Down, and kept them to re-read or browse. I wrote Willett a fan letter and she put me on her blogroll of bloggers- so she is generous,too.

The 101 advice was still not touching what i wanted to learn. Finally, on page 4 of my printout, here it is:

PUBLISH YOUR OWN BLOG TO ENGAGE READERS (all three of them) AND HELP SEARCH ENGINES FIND YOU. (I didn’t know I was lost.) Add new content on a weekly basis, it says. Well , when I started my blog in 2015 I wrote it on a daily basis. I bogged down (blogged down?) two years ago when I ran into a series of obstacles that burned up more time and energy than I had. I’m just coming out of it now, I hope. We go on we go on.

Now, the meat: “Here are seven things a blog can help you accomplish.”

1 Develop a following. I wish.

2 Create more ‘tentacles’—that’s blogspeak for topics. “Ever article you write becomes another portal through which potential fans can get to know you. I wish.

3 Earn better search result positions. ?? Be active and relevant. Okay.

4 Hone your craft. I’m honing I’m honing. Write something every week. How about every day?

5 Produce material for future books. Hey, I use my blog for other assignments when i don’t have time to write two pieces. My blog has become an integral part of my writing output.

6 Know your industry, especially nonfiction writers. Using your blog as a resource for your topic, you can report on news, trends, discoveries,ideas, but watch out for your copyright. Don’t give it away.

7 Create interaction and community with your readers. I wish.
